God is against everything that creates poverty: sin, injustice, ignorance, laziness and sickness. Poverty was not a part of God’s creation. It is a symptom of sin in the world.
Prosperity is the very nature of God. It is the nature of the new birth, the renewed mind and the fruit of the Spirit. Health and long life are an expression of God’s prosperity. Joy, love, generosity, peace and vision for the future are all symptoms of prosperity.
Some will fight this message because of the poverty in their own souls. They identify more with the bondage of poverty than they do with the abundance of God’s grace. They will challenge others to remember the poor without ever remembering why they are poor. Can the gospel not reverse poverty? If it has taken believers from death to life and darkness to light, is it powerless in the face of poverty? Those who have ears to hear can be transformed by love of God, walk according to His nature and purpose, and enjoy the increase that defines the Kingdom. It is a matter of knowledge and choice.
Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 2)
God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed . . . you will be enriched in everything for all liberality. (2 Cor. 9:6-11)
God’s prosperity is abundant life (John 10:10). It is increase in every area of your life. It is peace with God and the ability to be a blessing to others. It is the joy of the Lord. Choose prosperity.
